Adani Energy Solutions has approached Uttar Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission (UPERC) to obtain a parallel electricity distribution licence for a data centre park in Noida, allowing it to undertake power distribution and supply within the facility.
The commission is yet to take the final decisions and is currently inviting public comments and objections from stakeholders before deciding on the application.
The petition under Sections 14 and 15 of the Electricity Act, 2003, has been filed jointly by Adani Energy Solutions Step Eleven Ltd (AESSEL) and Adani Energy Solutions Ltd (AESL), seeing for the license for electricity distribution within the Data Centre Park being developed by DC Development Noida Ltd (DCDNL) at Plot No. 20, Sector-62, Noida, Uttar Pradesh.
As per the petition, AESSEL will hold responsibility across developing, operating and maintaining the electricity distribution infrastructure and supplying electricity within the project, while DCDNL will work as the developer of the data centre park.
According to Adani, although DCDNL is developing the park, it lacks expertise across electricity distribution, prompting the appointment of AESSEL, a group company of AESL, to undertake the specialised activity.
The company further asserted that AESSEL derives its financial, technical and managerial strength from its parent company, AESL which holds expertise in electricity transmission and distribution. It also submitted that under the Uttar Pradesh Data Centre Policy (2021) and a state government notification from March 10, 2023, developers, operators, or their associates are permitted to obtain an electricity distribution licence for a notified data centre park.
