The Arunachal Pradesh government executed a Memorandum of Understanding with Norway’s Tidal Sails AS to launch India’s first kinetic energy demonstration plant on Tuesday.
As per the MoU, the Norwegian firm based in Haugesund, will support a 500 kW project in the state for an energy generation plant, which will generate electricity directly through river currents without any major infrastructure, providing an environmentally sustainable and cost-effective renewable energy solution.
This agreement brings together the Arunachal Pradesh government’s Centre for Earth Sciences and Himalayan Studies and the Norwegian firm under the India-Norway Green Partnership.
Moreover, the agreement is supported by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy and Innovation Norway.
The project aligns with India's push to expand decentralised renewable energy and diversify its clean energy mix beyond conventional solar, wind and large hydropower.
