Engineers India Ltd (EIL) has signed a contract worth over $350 million with Nigeria’s Dangote Group for the expansion of its flagship oil refinery, the company has said.
The project involves adding a second processing train to raise the refinery’s capacity from 650,000 barrels per day to 1.4 million barrels per day, with the expanded facility expected to produce Euro VI-grade fuels, it added.
Dangote Group will also expand polypropylene production from 830,000 TPA to 2.4 MTPA by revamping the existing polypropylene unit, installing a new 1.2 MTPA unit, and adding a 750,000 TPA Oleflex unit to supplement propylene feedstock.
EIL has been appointed as project management consultant (PMC) and engineering, procurement and construction management (EPCM) consultant for the project.
Once completed, the expansion is expected to make the Dangote facility the world’s largest petroleum refinery at a single location, strengthening fuel supply in Africa and reducing reliance on imports.
The refinery is located in the Lekki Free Zone near Lagos, where Dangote Group operates the world’s largest single-train refinery.
