In what could be viewed as an attempt to strengthen its board, GAIL (India) Ltd has reportedly nominated Dr Banwari Lal and Rupa Saikia as Non-Official Independent Directors. Approved by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG), the nominations are effective from August 12, 2026 for three years or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
The Public Sector Unit (PSU) expects to gain new perspectives in its board-level discussions and strategic decision-making. The appointment of independent directors coincides with GAIL’s sustained role in India’s clean energy transition led by natural gas transmission and energy transmission.
