The government has awarded incentives for 3,000 MW per annum of electrolyser manufacturing capacity and 8.62 lakh TPA of green hydrogen production under the National Green Hydrogen Mission.
The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy said 15 companies have been awarded electrolyser manufacturing capacity under the incentive scheme, involving a total incentive outlay of ₹4,440 crore. Separately, 18 companies have been awarded cumulative green hydrogen production capacity of 8,62,000 TPA.
To support early demand creation, the ministry said two companies have been awarded contracts to supply 20,000 tonnes per annum of green hydrogen for use in refineries.
The government reiterated that India’s green hydrogen production capacity is expected to reach 5 million metric tonnes per annum by 2030.
As part of cost-reduction measures, green hydrogen and green ammonia projects commissioned on or before December 31, 2030, and using renewable energy, will be exempt from payment of inter-state transmission system charges for 25 years from the date of commissioning. Units operating in special economic zones will also be eligible for duty benefits under Section 26 of the SEZ Act, 2005, for installation and operation of renewable energy equipment used for captive consumption.
The ministry said it is also supporting research and development, including a project to scale up and indigenise perovskite tandem solar cell technology, with a total project cost of ₹83.19 crore.
