The government, under the Strategic Interventions for Green Hydrogen Transition (SIGHT) Mode - 2B scheme of National Green Hydrogen Mission (NGHM), has awarded green hydrogen production capacity of 30 Kilo Tonnes Per Annum (KTPA) for four refineries, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy said.
These refineries are Indian Oil Corporation Ltd, Panipat; Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd, Bina; Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd, Vizag; and Numaligarh Refineries Ltd, Numaligarh.
The projects are implemented through Build Own Operate (BOO) arrangements through private developers, with project-specific investments by the project developers concerned. Domestic production and utilisation of Green Hydrogen is expected to reduce dependence on imported fossil fuels, enhance energy security and support India’s clean energy transition and Net Zero objectives.
The government is implementing the National Green Hydrogen Mission (NGHM) with the objective of making India a global hub for production, usage and export of green hydrogen and its derivatives.
