The government is planning to implement a standardised energy-efficiency labelling system for batteries used with solar photovoltaic (PV) panels and large-scale energy storage systems, reports Mint.
It will follow a 1-5 rating system with Watt-hour (Wh) serving as the primary sorting criteria as per an unnamed source mentioned by the daily.
The initiative is adapted from India's established appliance grading scheme for batteries, where higher star count means the battery is more efficient, saves more power, and performs better.
The framework is expected to be finalised by September, and is likely to start as a voluntary program.
