The Central government has lifted all sectoral restrictions on the supply of non-domestic packed liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and partially restored bulk LPG distribution as supply conditions improve following disruptions caused by the recent West Asia crisis.
According to the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, bulk LPG supplies have been restored to 50% of pre-crisis levels, reversing temporary restrictions that were imposed to safeguard domestic LPG availability during the supply disruption.
The ministry said domestic LPG consumers will continue to receive priority, with total indigenous LPG production being maintained at 40 thousand metric tonnes (TMT) or more per day. Enhanced allocation of C3/C4 hydrocarbon streams for non-LPG applications will also be implemented to support petrochemical and other critical industries.

In a major relief to the industrial and commercial LPG supply chain, the Indian government has lifted all sectoral restrictions on non-domestic packed LPG, restoring supplies prior to the West Asia crisis on Thursday as per the press release issued. There has been relief in bulk LPG supply by 50 percent of the pre-crisis levels which had been suspended at the onset of the crisis following the recent progress in the LPG supply situation.
According to the release, the government will ensure that domestic LPG availability remains unaffected and total internal LPG production will be maintained at 40 TMT or more per day, the boosted allocation of C3-C4 streams for non-LPG uses will be implemented.
The Centre of High Technology under the ministry has been instructed to implement organisation wise allocation of this enhanced C3/C4 streams for the petrochemical and other critical sectors and provide consistent reports to the ministry.
The government has directed Oil Marketing Companies to maintain a thorough report on supply for commercial and industrial LPG consumers and a unified database will be maintained in order to maintain a coordinated and uninterrupted flow of LPG supply.
Taking note of the global supply chain crisis, providing uninterrupted supply of LPG to domestic consumers is the government’s top priority. Moreover, temporary restrictions were imposed on the commercial supply of LPG.
