Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein has said the commissioning of a major refinery upgrade reflects steps being taken to strengthen India’s energy security and economic position.
Referring to the Residue Upgradation Facility (RUF) commissioned at Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd’s Visakhapatnam Refinery, Mein said the project would improve fuel production efficiency and enhance value recovery from crude oil.
In a social media post on X, Mein said the facility would help reduce import dependence by maximising output from each barrel of oil processed, contributing to fuel self-sufficiency.
The RUF includes India’s first residue hydrocracking unit and the world’s first LC-Max unit, designed to convert around 93 percent of low-value bottom-of-the-barrel residues into higher-value petroleum products. The Deputy Chief Minister described the project as a significant engineering achievement that improves refining depth and enables processing of heavier crude grades.
He also referred to broader developments across the economy and the energy sector, citing growth in agriculture, manufacturing and clean energy. According to Mein, expansion of domestic energy infrastructure, reduced import dependence and rising renewable energy capacity are supporting economic resilience.
He said strengthening energy systems and accelerating clean energy deployment would be important to meeting future demand and sustaining long-term growth.
