Iran has confirmed to proceed to charge service fees for transition of ships through the Strait of Hormuz but countries with friendly ties with Tehran are likely to receive a “special treatment”.
Though Iran has assured New Delhi that Indian vessels were not charged transit fees during past escalations, highlighting that these ships will continue to be granted safe passage through the strait. Yet, the answer still remains unclear whether Indian vessels will be given a special concession or not.
Moreover,the Iranian ambassador to China, emphasised that nations supporting Iran during recent tensions may receive concessions under the new agreement.
The charges will cover services across maritime security, vessel supervision and environmental protection, as per Iranian ambassador to China. He further highlighted that these charges should not be considered as tolls.
