India plans to invest more than ₹50,000 crore in the third phase of its Green Energy Corridor marking a significant push to relieve grid congestion. The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) is expected to seek Union cabinet's approval for the over ₹50,000-crore third phase of India's green energy corridor, Mint quoted two government officials as saying.
The new phase will boost intra-state transmission networks in renewable energy (RE)-rich states, including Gujarat, Rajasthan, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh, the officials stated. Gujarat will host the majority of projects under this phase, followed by Rajasthan.
The push comes at a time when India's rapid solar and wind expansion is outstripping its power grid's evacuation capacity, leading to generation reduction and emerging as a threat to the country's 2030 clean energy goals.
