Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri has said India’s long-term energy planning is increasingly translating into tangible everyday benefits, adding that the effectiveness of policy should be measured by how seamlessly it supports daily life.
In a post on X, the minister said India’s energy systems are tested daily across homes, transport networks and workplaces, where forecasts meet real-world demand.
Highlighting the expansion of Piped Natural Gas (PNG) infrastructure, Puri said around 1.58 crore households now have access to PNG connections, reducing dependence on cylinder refills and enabling cleaner cooking fuel.
He also pointed to the growth of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) infrastructure, noting that 8,428 CNG stations are currently operational nationwide. The number is expected to rise to 18,336 by 2030, expanding access to cleaner transportation fuel.
According to the minister, the national gas pipeline network has expanded from about 15,000 km in 2014 to 25,429 km at present, with plans to extend it to 33,475 km by 2030 to strengthen energy connectivity and preparedness.
Puri said energy systems must be designed to anticipate demand rather than respond after pressure builds, adding that planning under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is being assessed by how reliably it functions in everyday use.
