Oman and Iran have arrived at an agreement that spells out working towards a temporary joint shipping corridor via the Strait of Hormuz in a phase manner. This will go along mines clearing initiative in the strait carried out by both nations, as per a joint statement.
This development comes on the heels of US President Donald Trump’s statement where he said that he was informed by his navy about removal and detonation of mines in international waters of the strait.
Trump, in a post on Truth Social, said that ships involved in mine laying would be destroyed immediately and systematically and that laying mines will not be tolerated. The US President added that his country’s space force was monitoring the strategic waterway.
Oman’s Foreign Minister Badr Albusaidi had visited Iran to hold consultations with his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi, leading to the joint statement.
