Iran stated that it has come to an agreement with Oman over a plan for vessels to cross through the Strait of Hormuz with both nations currently finalising details for a joint statement.
“An understanding has been reached regarding the map of the transit route.” Iranian Foreign Affairs spokesperson Esmail Baghaei told reporters in Tehran.
Although Baghaei did not specify any details, previously disclosed details indicate that the agreement would reopen the vessel movement through a route close to Iran and exiting through a route close to Oman. Additionally, Transiting ships would be exempt from fees and tolls during a transitional phase.
Meanwhile, Baghaei also admitted that the negotiations with Oman have gone slowly adding that “but we had planned, and still plan, to finalize the understanding in the form of a package: the map plus a joint statement.”
Furthermore, the US has asked for a satisfactory agreement on reopening the strait before lifting its blockade on Iranian ports.
