Karnataka has recorded 14,151 rooftop solar installations under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, benefitting 22,313 households, Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi has informed the Rajya Sabha.
As on 31 October 2025, Karnataka’s total installed renewable-energy capacity stood at 25,675.39 MW, accounting for 10.24 percent of India’s total 2,50,643.45 MW renewable capacity, Joshi added.
Across the country, 18,72,499 rooftop solar systems have been installed under the scheme as on 26 November 2025, benefitting 23,47,694 households. In Belagavi district, 25,778 applications have been submitted on the national portal, of which 681 households have received installations, he also added.
The scheme is demand-driven and open to residential consumers with grid-connected electricity. To expedite progress toward the target of installing rooftop solar in one crore households by 2026–27, the union government has undertaken measures such as an online end-to-end process on the National Portal, collateral-free loans from nationalised banks at 6 percent interest, waiver of technical-feasibility requirements, and auto-approval of load enhancement up to 10 kW, the union minister said.
