In continuation with its human resource development programme for FY 2026–27 to 2030–31, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has allocated a total financial outlay of ₹258.83 crore.
The MNRE will utilise the monies to develop a skilled workforce aligned with the country’s renewable energy expansion target of reaching 500 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030. During the five year duration, ₹200 crore will be spent on supporting new initiatives and ₹58.83 crore will be utilised for meeting committed liabilities from previous human resource development programmes.
The ministry will focus on developing renewable energy value chain by developing skilled professionals. This is besides addressing installation, operation, maintenance, and R&D.
A major component of the programme will be short-term training and skill, as the ministry plans to achieve around 7 lakh man-days of training, which will benefit around 12,500 individuals. On-going programmes such as Suryamitra, Vayumitra, Varunmitra, Jal Urja Mitra and Biomitra will be expanded across the country.
Besides, the programme will focus on 100 districts with significant renewable energy potential or installations for introducing hyper-localised training. Short-term courses, upskilling initiatives and Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) will be a part of the programme, which allow experienced workers to receive formal industry certification. MNRE will provide 165 National Renewable Energy Fellowships over five years for higher education and research, as well as fellowships to support MTech, PhD and post-doctoral research in specialised renewable energy areas.
