NTPC Green Energy Ltd (NGEL) has secured a 200 MW/800 MWh standalone Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project in West Bengal through the West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd's (WBSEDCL) tariff-based competitive bidding process.
The NTPC Ltd subsidiary emerged as the successful bidder in the e-reverse auction concluded on August 7, with a discovered tariff of ₹4.35 lakh per MW per month.
The project forms part of WBSEDCL's tender to develop 500 MW/2,000 MWh of standalone battery energy storage capacity across West Bengal to strengthen grid stability and support peak load management.
Under the terms of the Request for Selection (RfS), NGEL will develop 200 MW/800 MWh of standalone energy storage capacity in the state.
The award further strengthens NGEL's presence in the battery energy storage segment as the company expands its portfolio beyond renewable energy generation into grid-scale energy storage solutions.
