In a bid to expand its renewable energy footprint, NTPC Mining Ltd (NML) has initiated the process by inviting Expressions of Interest (EoIs) for 40 MW of ground-mounted solar power projects. NML aims to integrate sustainable energy solutions into its mining operations. The company is a subsidiary of the state-owned power major NTPC.

This development signals the company is positioning itself to align with NTPC’s broader strategy for transitioning towards cleaner energy sources. Moreover, the move also aimed at simultaneously ensuring operational efficiency in locations that are rich in resources such as Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh.

The tender’s critical aspect is the deployment model, as the Renewable Energy Service Company (RESCO) mode will be adhered to for the development of the project. The arrangement spells out while the mining entity acts as the off-taker for the generated electricity, the developer is responsible for the design, finance, procurement, construction, and operation of the solar plant. By providing a stable, long-term revenue stream for the successful developer, the model reduces the upfront capital expenditure burden on the mining arm.
