NTPC ltd is set to invest nearly ₹17 trillion by FY37, seeking to nearly double its power generation capacity by 2032 and almost triple it by 2037, ET Energyworld reported quoting a company executive as saying.

The state-owned company plans to increase the current capacity of nearly 91 GW to a capacity of 150 GW by FY32.

Currently, the company’s overall capacity is at 127 GW, including about 91 GW operational and 36 GW under construction.

This expansion is an extended part of a long term plan aiming to redirect capital investments toward clean energy, energy storage, and nuclear power, while coal remains a vital component.

Renewable energy will potentially lead the charge for the upcoming future expansion, with the expected capacity reaching around 12 GW currently to 60 GW by FY32 and 136 GW by FY37.

Moreover, the energy producer asserts that coal, renewables backed by storage, and nuclear power will create the three legs of India’s energy security with coal-fired capacity projected to reach approximately 91 GW from 67 GW. Alongside the company scaling up its nuclear ambitions to potentially hit 30 GW by 204, including about 6 GW by 2037.
