An oil tanker has reached Odisha’s Paradip Port after surviving gunfire in the volatile corridor of the Strait of Hormuz on Thursday.
The tanker named MT Sanmar Herald, transported two million barrels of Basrah Medium and Basrah Heavy crude oil from Iraq.
The vessel went through active gunfire while transiting through the corridor of the Strait of Hormuz, sustaining shrapnel struck its steering bridge during a period of intense Middle Eastern conflict, according to reports.
In order to safeguard the vessel and its crew, the ship took a substitute route after the incident and proceeded to the Indian coast without further security incidents.
After the arrival of the vessel at the Odisha coast the ship dropped its anchor around 22 km away from the seashore of Paradip, and discharged its crude oil via the port's offshore Single Point Mooring (SPM) facility.
In a social media post on X, Paradip Ports Authority stated that despite the damage sustained during the transit near the Strait of Hormuz, the ship successfully completed its journey with continuous coordination with the Indian Navy.
"Paradip Port salutes the unwavering spirit of seafarers, whose dedication keeps global trade moving even in the most challenging circumstances," the Port Authority stated in its X post.
