Under Tariff Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB), Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd has become a successful bidder to build an Inter-State Transmission System for integrating renewable energy projects in Gujarat. The company received the Letter of Intent (LoI) on the same day.
With a discovered annual tariff of Rs. 822.91 crore, the project will enable the integration of renewable power from the 5,500 MW Jam Khambhaliya Renewable Energy Zone (REZ) Phase II and the 1,000 MW Jamnagar Phase-I renewable energy projects. The initiative will potentially boost Gujarat’s transmission network and facilitate the evacuation of large volumes of clean power.
Power Grid will operate the project on a Build, Own, Operate, and Transfer (BOOT) basis. The project’s key deliverables includes the establishment of a new Gas-Insulated Switchgear (GIS) substation at Kalyanpur in Gujarat.
Moreover, the project will cover augmentation of Instrument Transformer and Circuit (ICT) facilities and bay extensions at several substations currently under construction across the state.
The company will also deploy 765 kV transmission lines to enhance the flow of renewable electricity in Gujarat.
Also, the project aligns with India’s broader efforts to expand transmission infrastructure along with growing renewable energy capacity.
