The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has amended ‘Revised Guidelines for Installation of Prototype Wind Turbine Models’ issued on June 12, 2025. Paragraph 5 of the guidelines has been amended in order to permit distribution companies (DISCOM) and any other eligible entity to purchase scheduled power from prototype wind turbines.
The amended guidelines restrict the synchronisation and commissioning to a maximum of three wind turbines per prototype wind turbine model. The companies can now purchase power through either a mutually agreed tariff or a tariff regulated by the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) or the Concerned State Electricity Regulatory Commission (SERC).
Further, the amendment includes a mandate for Commercial mass production and installation to begin only after the wind turbine model joins the ALMM (Approved List of Models and Manufactures) - Wind list, replacing the RLMM (Revised List of Models and Manufacturers) requirement. All other provisions in the guidelines remain unchanged, and no other amendment has been made.
