REC Ltd on Thursday showcased what it described as India’s first live demonstration of a peer-to-peer (P2P) energy trading pilot under the India Energy Stack (IES) at the India AI Impact Summit 2026 in New Delhi.


The demonstration was presented during a session, ‘India Energy Stack (IES) and the AI-Ready Power Sector: Trust, Interoperability, and Scale,’ signalling a step towards a decentralised and digitally enabled power ecosystem.


According to the company, the highlight of the session was a live decentralised energy transaction carried out on a secure, blockchain-enabled platform. In the demonstration, Arun Singh, a farmer from Meerut in Uttar Pradesh, sold six units of surplus solar power to Lakshmi, a garment shop owner in Delhi, earning ₹30.


REC said the transaction demonstrated the practical application of the India Energy Stack, conceived as a digital public infrastructure framework to enable citizens to participate as active “energy agents” rather than passive electricity consumers.


The pilot allows prosumers — households, farmers and businesses generating renewable energy — to directly trade surplus electricity with other consumers through interoperable digital protocols. The initiative is aimed at laying the groundwork for a more participatory and decentralised electricity market.


The India Energy Stack is envisaged as an interoperable framework of open standards and protocols to enable secure, low-cost data and service exchange across the power sector, comparable in approach to the Unified Payments Interface in digital payments.
