Tripura Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath has said that the state of Tripura intends to produce 500 MW of renewable energy by 2030 for hastening the process of moving towards green energy.


There is an ongoing revolution in the world of energy, particularly renewable energy, especially solar power, across the world, said the minister. It would result in technological advancement as well as employment generation.


Tripura has currently achieved nearly 58.76 MW in renewable energy capacity, with the state government actively working to scale up its green footprint over the next four years, according to the minister.


To hit the 500 MW target, the state plans a multi-level approach that includes rooftop solar setups, ground-mounted solar plants, solar micro-grids, green villages, and various decentralised clean energy projects.


Nath highlighted the state’s UTSA (Unnayan through Transformative Solar Applications) initiative, which is going to build a skilled local workforce fit for the expanding global solar market.


Under UTSA, state government’s Tripura Renewable Energy Development Agency (TREDA),is partnering with the Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission (TRLM) and Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL). The government is conducting training programmes, including Suryamitra and Solar PV Technician courses.


"...UTSA creates skilled manpower while rooftop solar programmes create the market" said Nath. He added that harmony between industry, investment, and technology can build a sustainable green energy ecosystem.


The minister also informed that 9,401 solar pumps have been installed in the state under PM-KUSUM, and 1709 are under implementation. Besides, Tripura has made progress in expanding solar-powered infrastructure under various central government schemes. These benefit 18,802 acres of farmlands. Solar micro-grids supply clean power to around 9762 families under the PM-DevINE scheme and 1703 households under the PM-JANMAN scheme.


The government’s green-skilling initiatives help empower the marginalised- SC, ST rural youth and women. Nath said this step will help Tripura reduce dependence on conventional sources of energy and also generate employment.


Nath said that Tripura is set to meet the 500 MW target by 2030 with skilled workers and modern technology.
