Uttar Pradesh has signed clean energy investment Memoranda of Understandings (MoU) worth over ₹8,800 crore at the World Economic Forum (WEF) annual meeting in Davos, focusing on waste-to-energy and compressed biogas projects to strengthen the state’s circular energy ecosystem.
The largest MoU was signed with state-run REC Ltd to develop 500 MW of agriculture waste-to-energy projects involving an estimated investment of ₹8,000 crore. The projects will utilise crop residue and other biomass waste to create decentralised renewable power capacity across the state.
In a separate agreement, Carbon Compass Services LLP committed ₹820 crore to set up briquetting and compressed biogas (CBG) plants, along with carbon credit monetisation initiatives. Of this, ₹30 crore has been earmarked for carbon market-linked activities.
Renergy Dynamics Pvt Ltd also partnered with the state to establish compressed biogas plants with a combined processing capacity of 70 tonnes per day. The projects are aligned with the Centre’s Sustainable Alternative Towards Affordable Transportation (SATAT) programme and India’s Net Zero emissions target for 2070.
The MoUs were finalised on the third day of Uttar Pradesh’s engagements at Davos, where the state is seeking to attract investment in bioenergy, waste-to-energy and sustainability-linked sectors as part of its broader energy transition strategy.
